Pets at Duke!

Pets play an important role in many people’s lives and are often considered family members, offering companionship, affection, and moments of joy. Recognizing these benefits, the Duke Cancer Patient Support Program launched Pets at Duke—a pet therapy program—in 1994.

The program helps ease the isolation, stress, and anxiety that patients and their loved ones may experience while visiting the hospital by connecting them with comforting hugs, snuggles, and meaningful conversations provided by therapy dogs and their trained volunteer handlers.

This service is available at no charge thanks to the generosity of donors.
