Frequently Asked Questions:

1) Do I have to play pickleball to participate?

Although this is a bonafide pickleball tournament, there are ways to contribute without stepping foot on the court. Opportunities to sponsor the event, support a player, or donate directly are available on the website. In addition, you can bid on exciting auction items.

2) Are my donations tax-deductible?

Although the tournament registration fee is not tax-deductible, any donation outside of the registration fee is tax-deductible. We will gladly provide documentation of your donation to you.

3) Where is the money going?

The fundraiser will raise funds for Duke Breast Surgery and the Duke Breast Oncology Program. Funds from the past 2 years have gone toward the certification of three of our APPs in surgical breast oncology by the American Society of Breast Surgeons. This specialized training allows them to provide advanced expert care to patients facing breast disease. We also supported lactation counseling, improving the quality of care for post-surgical patients. These funds have enabled the launch of a visiting professor lectureship series, bringing leading experts to Duke and fostering collaboration and knowledge sharing.

4) Why should I support Duke?

The Duke Breast Surgery and Duke Breast Oncology Program treats over 1,500 breast cancer patients a year. In addition, our faculty are specialty-trained in the multidisciplinary care of patients with breast cancer and lead national clinical trials that direct the management of patients with breast cancer worldwide. Locally, we have expanded our care with providers in not only Durham but also Wake and Roberson Counties to provide the most advanced care to our patients closer to their homes. Duke is dedicated to serving our community (and bringing pickleball to our community, to boot!)

5) Who is playing in the exhibition match?

Players will include Chris Jacques and others.

6) Do I have to be a member of the Duke Faculty Club to participate?

No! The Duke Faculty Club has generously offered to host the event for our community for both members and non-members as registered participants of the tournament.
