In honor of my mother, Melanie Anne Taylor

I am walking with my family in honor of my mother. Our team is made up of friends and Family of Melanie in addition to the Watts School of Nursing, where Melanie attended nursing school.  Melanie was a student at Watts at the time she was diagnosed with a GBM. She is missed greatly by all that knew her.  Please see her story below.

CHAPEL HILL, NC Melanie Anne Taylor of Chapel Hill died on March 4, 2011, at home, surrounded by her family, after a courageous battle with a brain tumor. She was 53.

Melanie was born on August 11, 1957. She attended Greensboro Day School and St. Catherine's School in Richmond, VA, and graduated from Page High School in Greensboro. She graduated from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, in 1979 with a Bachelor of Arts in Art History. She completed her first year of coursework toward her B.S.N. at Watts School of Nursing and was awarded honorary membership in the Watts Alumni Association in 2010.

She served as president of The Julian Price Family Foundation and the Greensboro Civic Ballet Theater Guild. She was a member of the Greensboro Junior League, Green Hill Board of Directors, Little Gate Garden Club, Kathleen Bryan Edwards Award for Human Rights jury at the Full Frame Documentary Film Festival, and the Orange County Committee of the Colonial Dames of America. She supported and was actively involved in many charitable, cultural, historical and environmental non-profit organizations.

Melanie was the great-granddaughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Julian Price of Greensboro, the granddaughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Joseph M. Bryan, and the daughter of the late Kathleen Bryan Taylor Edwards and Ray Howard Taylor, Sr.

Surviving Melanie are her children, Kathleen Clay Farland of New York, NY; Anne Farland Arwood and her husband, Daniel of Atlanta, GA; and Margaret Farland Griffin and her husband, Mark of Chapel Hill; sisters, Laura Edwards of Chapel Hill, her partner Elaine Andrews, and their daughter, Lillian of Chapel Hill; Susan Edwards of Greensboro; Mary Price Taylor Harrison of Greensboro; brothers, John Taylor, his wife, Leslie, and their daughters, Saskia and Annelies of Madison, WI; Kathleen Clay Taylor of Bar Harbor, ME; Bryan Taylor, his wife, Carolyn and their children, McKinley, Caroline and Julian of Charlotte; Howard Taylor, his wife, Shawn and their daughters, Gavin, Victoria and Kathleen of McLean, VA; and her uncle, Joseph M. Bryan, Jr. of Greensboro.
