2025 Angels Among Us 5K & Walk for HOPE

Arnie's Apocalypse

Be an angel and join our Family at the Angels Among Us 5K and Walk for Hope as we work together to find a cure for brain tumors.

Thanks to Duke, our Family is still thriving. Duke's amazing doctors used their expertise to catch a primary brain tumor that wanted squatting rights in Carrie's brain in 2012.  The squatter's name, Arnie the Astrocytoma. Fortunately, Arnie's resume was not that impressive, a Grade 2 well-differentiated Astrocytoma. Most primary astrocytoma are discovered at a Grade 3 Anaplastic Astrocytoma or a Grade 4, Glioblastoma Multiforme (GBM).

Thanks to happenstance and a great team, Arnie was evicted in 2013, and in 2017, its nagging remains were obliterated with Temodar. Our Family owes so much to Carrie's primary care doctor who wanted the original MRI, the talented neurosurgeon who monitored, biopsied and resected Arnie and the neuro-oncology team at the Preston Robert Tisch Brain Tumor Center. Thanks to these amazing people, Arnie has stayed lazy and allowed our Family to carry on with life.

Our Family journey is a cakewalk compared to most. This event gives HOPE to those who need it most.

A brain tumor diagnosis ripples through every aspect of life. Priorities shift, moments take on new meaning, relationships deepen, and time becomes more precious.

Did you know that the Preston Robert Tisch Brain Tumor Center at Duke is one of the oldest brain tumor research and clinical programs in the United States? It's a destination for patients seeking the most advanced treatments. The Center understands how overwhelming a brain tumor diagnosis can be, and with their compassionate staff and researchers, they help over 5,000 patients each year navigate this challenging journey.

The funds raised at this event will fuel groundbreaking research and cutting-edge clinical trials.

Thank you—because of your support, we're one step closer to a cure.
