Over the past 17 years since Mom was diagnosed with brain cancer, most years I have done a triathlon or a run as a fundraiser for brain tumor research. I was out last year due to a broken elbow, but back at it again this year. Hopefully I am done with broken bones! This year I am participating in the Angels Among Us race at Duke. It is an amazing event that we used to be a part of when Mom was still here. It is extra special this year because I am doing it with a good friend who was also treated at Duke for her brain tumor.
I miss Mom everyday, but I am comforted that her spirit is always with me. Whenever I am having a hard day, I ask myself what Kathy Young would have done. She would always kill everyone with kindness regardless of how they treated her. She was an amazing lady!
The Duke Brain Tumor center treated Mom with remarkable care for nine years, so I will continue to raise money for their research. Established in 1937, The Preston Robert Tisch Brain Tumor Center is one of the oldest brain tumor research and clinical programs in the United States and is a destination for patients seeking the most advanced treatments. The funds raised will support groundbreaking research and cutting-edge clinical trials. Your gift will give Duke the resources needed to continue the fight against brain tumors.
