Hello friends!
Thank you for your interest in supporting TEAM #NESTORSTRONG – REST IN POWER to honor the memory of Nestor Paonessa by continuing to support the Preston Robert Tisch Brain Tumor Center at Duke. While we process our grief and sadness in losing Nestor this past November, we are also filled with joy and gratitude for the opportunity to know and to love Nestor.
Please join us for the Angels Among Us 5K & Walk for Hope on Saturday, April 25! Let’s walk (or run!) together to support the fight against brain tumors as we honor Nestor.
Nestor was diagnosed with a brain tumor in June of 2015. Thanks to Drs. Henry and Allan Friedman and the rest of their elite team of researchers, doctors, physician assistants, nurses, and radiologists, Nestor was empowered to face his cancer diagnosis head-on and to live his life to the fullest. With Nestor’s relentless forward movement, determination, and the loving support of family and friends, he accomplished extraordinary physical challenges, such as completing the Umstead 100-Mile Endurance Run in April 2017 and hiking to the top of Mt. Kilimanjaro two months later. Yet his greatest joy and proudest role was as a father to his son Kai.
Nestor touched us in ways large and small. We were better humans as a result of knowing and loving him. He was a beloved exercise scientist/trainer/coach/professional, excellent athlete, talented musician, and highly intelligent individual. His dry wit and great sense of humor, zest for life, and care for others were some of his distinctive character traits.
Please join us in honoring Nestor’s legacy.
