Cashin's Crusaders

Marisa-Rose Cashin, Ed.D. age 52, passed away peacefully after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Marisa was born in Denville, NJ.

Marisa was a National Board Certified Teacher and a life-long learner. She received her undergraduate degree from Montclair State University, graduate degree from East Carolina University and her doctorate from North Central University in Curriculum & Instruction, each time graduating with honors.

Marisa has been teaching in the Wake County Public School System (WCPSS) since 2007, first at Cedar Fork Elementary and later teaching fifth grade at Hortons Creek Elementary. During her time with the WCPSS Marisa served as a mentor working with beginning teachers to help them develop skills needed to have success in the classroom.

Marisa enjoyed participating in many extracurricular activities with “her kids”. One of her favorites was “Girl Power.” She was often seen at student sporting events, plays, or recitals. She always felt it was important to support “her kids” outside of the classroom as well.

Marisa was active member of St. Andrew the Apostle Catholic Church in Apex - she especially enjoyed being on the Activities Committee and serving as a Eucharistic Minister.

Marisa is survived by her loving husband of 26 years, Peter; her son Marc; daughter-in-law Katie; granddaughter Zoey; mother Rose DiEllo; sister Julia Scotto; farther-in-law Arthur, brother-in-law Paul; brother-in-law Art; sister-in-law Kerry and seven nieces and nephews - Trevor, Taylor, Kylee, David, Nancy, Marisa and Daniel.

In lieu of flowers the family has requested donations be made to the Cashin’s Crusaders Team page at to help continue Marisa’s fight to find a cure for Brain Cancer.

There will be a Funeral Mass Saturday, September 14, 2019 at St. Andrew the Apostle Catholic Church in Apex, N.C. at 11:00am, followed at 1:00pm by a celebration of Marisa’s life at Hortons Creek Elementary School 7615 O’Kelly Chapel Rd.
