Let's face it. Cancer sucks. There's no other way of articulating it. Cancer is a thief. It robs people of the lives they once knew, creating a "new normal" that wasn't asked for.
But from this robbery of joy, we can find hope. Hope in the world-class experts at the Duke Tisch Brain Tumor Center. Hope in the treatments under development to slow or even eradicate brain cancers. This research and development comes at a great cost, and there's no denying they need our help.
Earlier this year a friend of mine was diagnosed with a brain tumor. He has been receiving excellent care through The Preston Robert Tisch Brain Tumor Center at Duke. He's the type of person to jump at the opportunity to lend a hand when a hand is needed. The first person to loan a tool or an afternoon of his time to help with even the most menial of tasks. Now, it's our turn to lend a hand. Whether you want to participate in the 5K and set a personal record, or show up and walk (like me!), or even if you can't make it at all, a donation of any amount would be so very appreciated. Please, consider registering / donating. Let's show that we stand in solidarity with eachother, through whatever life peppers us with. After all, that's what friends are for! Be sure to look for "Deal Team 6" when registering / donating!
A bit of info about the 5K organization and the Tisch Brain Tumor Center:
Angels Among Us is a celebration of life, strength, courage and commitment. It has become a national event, with participants and volunteers coming from all across the country to help make a difference. The first event in 1994 raised $27,000. The 2019 event raised more than $2.5 million—bringing the total to over $26 million to support brain tumor research at The Preston Robert Tisch Brain Tumor Center.
Established in 1937, The Preston Robert Tisch Brain Tumor Center was one of the first brain tumor research and clinical programs in the United States. Since then, it has advanced to become one of the best pediatric and adult neuro-oncology programs in the world—leading the way in comprehensive care that combines research breakthroughs, clinical trials and the newest therapies. The National Cancer Institute (NCI) has given our center the highest rating of “outstanding” for each of the last 15 years.
