It has been nine years since Grant was diagnosed with Stage IV Malignant Medulloblastoma (specifically PNET) Brain Cancer. I knew my son was very ill, but trying to find out what was causing his symptoms was a long 2 year journey that was very difficult. It took visits to multiple doctors in and out of the state of North Carolina to find out what was making my son so sick. Finally, at Duke we got answers. When we received the results of his brain biopsy...2 days before his 26th birthday, we were all devastated and frightened of the unknown. Now, after finally having a diagnosis, what do we do, and when do we start...? The medical staff at Duke walked us through every step of the process. They left no question unanswered. His "recipe" for treatment was going to attack this disease from every angle. And it did! His Duke team still watches him closely and will continue to monitor him.
We are so grateful for the dedication of the staff at the Preston Robert Tisch Brain Cancer Center at Duke!!! The research and the treatment modalities available are exceptional and they saved my sons life!
It is time to give back and show appreciation to the efforts of so many that work desperately to find a cure and save lives! Please join us in raising funds for the continued efforts in research and treatment so that others can have the opportunities that we have been blessed to have.
