My mother was diagnosed with brain cancer last September. She was immediately placed under the care of the excellent surgeons, nurses and staff at the Duke University Brain Cancer center in North Carolina. They performed a successful seven hour surgery to remove the aggressive tumor - called a glioblastoma - which was deep within her brain. The surgeon called hers an extremely difficult "double black diamond" case. The delicate operation may not have been as successful if it weren't for the exceptional specialists at the Duke University Brain Cancer Center.
The successful surgery certainly extended her life, and every added day is a gift. She has some speech and mobility limitations now due to the nature of her tumor, but I can say without a doubt she would likely not still be with us if it weren't for the expertise of the Duke University Brain Cancer Center.
I am running the Angels Among Us 5K in Durham, North Carolina on April 27th in honor of my mother and to support this incredible medical organization. Angels Among Us is a celebration of life, strength, courage and commitment. Your gift will be used for brain tumor research and education, and may be endowed to provide ongoing support of the Preston Robert Tisch Brain Tumor Center.
Please join me in supporting the Tisch Brain Tumor Center, so they can continue to be at the forefront of fighting these horrific and relentless brain tumors. They attack without warning or prejudice, there are no known risk factors, and symptoms often don't appear until a tumor is already large and dangerous. Anything we can do to fight them better and help others survive longer seems very worthy to me. Thank you.
