Kimberly Pierce Qualls

Kim touched many lives along her life’s journey and was truly loved by all. She was always smiling and looking for the next adventure. She loved her family, Bama football (RTR), the beach, and Jimmy Buffett.

As a math teacher for over 25 years, she influenced countless students, and faculty alike. She taught at Moulton Middle School, East Lawrence High School, and 18 years at Decatur High School where she established and built the International Baccalaureate (IB) program. Kim finished her teaching career at Daphne High School.

Kim loved to travel, and her favorite place to go was the beach. She loved any beach, but Gulf Shores was her first love. Her goal was to visit all 50 states of the union which she completed 6 weeks before her passing by visiting South Dakota, North Dakota and Montana. She was an avid hiker and health and fitness enthusiasts.

Kim made lifelong friends wherever she went, from Hatton High School (graduate 1977), Moulton, Decatur, Daphne and Gulf Shores. Her lust for life was infectious and inspiring. She was a treasured friend to those who knew her, and an unstoppable force of nature. She truly lived life to the fullest and encouraged others to do the same. Kim was diagnosed with an aggressive brain tumor in June 2020, and passed away in November 2020. Her faith, family and friends sustained her through these difficult months.

Kim is survived by her husband of 36 years, Greg, her daughters Catherine Corbett Qualls (m. Casey Ambrose) and Elizabeth (Betsy) Pierce Qualls (m. Jesse Richardville), granddaughter Pierce Ambrose, her brother Billy Waymon Pierce Jr. (m. Jan Terry), and her mother Dorothy Pierce. She is preceded in death by her father Billy Waymon Pierce Sr.

Help us support research at the Preston Robert Tisch Brain Tumor Center at Duke. All proceeds we raise goes to research to find a cure for brain tumors. This type of support allows the Center to continue to lead the world in the development of new therapies, quality of life initiatives and innovative treatment techniques. Funds raised are quickly delivered where they are needed most in the fight against brain cancer.
