Welcome to Steve's Iambic Brigade!
Our team is a group of family and friends of Steve Kenkel, organized to participate again in 2025 in the Angels Among Us Walk for Hope at Duke University. Steve was a devoted son, brother, husband and father. All who knew him were impressed with his intellect, the breadth and depth of his knowledge, his sense of humor (puns aside) and his humility. Steve enjoyed bicycling, big band music, science fiction, history, musicals and writing poetry. He faced his final glioblastoma with tremendous dignity and grace. He left us far too soon, on 12/24/2019.
We are celebrating Steve's memory by forming this brigade to walk in his honor. Our team name comes from a style of poetry meter called Iambic verse. We'll be singing while we walk. We fondly remember one of his Iambic verses written for a group bicycle caroling event. Here is an excerpt, sung to the tune of Winter Wonderland:
Bike bells ring, are you listening?
On our brows, sweat is glistening
A Beautiful sight
Come join us tonight
Riding 'round in lycra cycling gear!
