2025 Angels Among Us 5K & Walk for HOPE

The Fighting Brainiacs

Dear Friends and Family,

Another year, another surgery. More radiation. Soon, another chemo regimen kicks in. My noggin is fertile ground for a rare brain cancer called Solitary Fibrous Tumor. An SFT is a type of soft tissue tumor, previously called hemangiopericytoma. The recurrence rate is high. These tumors can form anywhere in your body, but mine happens to be in my head. Knock on wood it doesn't spread to other parts of my body. Most SFTs are noncancerous, but I was unfortunate to have won the lottery and my tumors are cancerous. Treatments I've had include 3 surgeries to remove tumors, several rounds of radiation and chemotherapy.

The Angels Among Us 5K & Walk for HOPE is happening on Saturday, April 26, and I'm excited to invite you to join my team, The Fighting Brainiacs, to participate in either the 5K Run or the Walk for Hope. Your choice!! Some of you have participated in the past and I thank you so much for that! Hopefully, you'll join us again.

Your past support has helped fund groundbreaking research, clinical trials, and patient education. But the fight isn’t over, and this year, we need you more than ever. Federal grants are in limbo but that won't stop tumors from growing.

The 2025 Angels Among Us goal is to raise $2.5 million to continue supporting brain tumor research, and I would love for you to join me again in helping the Duke achieve that goal. Can we count on you to be part of this?

If you cannot attend, please consider making a donation to the team/cause as you see fit. No donation is too small.

Sincerely,
Ellen
