MIX 101.5 WRAL-FM Spirit of Hope Challenge for Duke Children's

Bryan's Team

Bryan's Why:

Radiothon makes us all better people because it rewards empathy and inspires hope. During Radiothon, our listeners hear the patient stories of fantastic care and compassion which are integral to Duke Children's. We are reminded of the good that comes from caring for others. However, we need to ensure they have the most up-to-date training and equipment, which are imperative for the best outcomes for children. By supporting Duke Children’s, we can help improve the lives of children facing health challenges, bringing hope and healing to families.

PICU Simulation Manakin

Bryan is fundraising for…

an Atlas Simulation Manikin for the Duke Pediatric Intensive Care Unit

How It Will Help Duke Children's Patients

This manikin will play a crucial role in the training and response of the Duke Pediatric ICU team, directly impacting the outcomes of more children. In children, respiratory failure is a leading cause of cardiac arrest, and these events often occur suddenly and progress more rapidly than in adults due to children's smaller airways and lower oxygen reserves. The state-of-the-art Atlas manikin will directly enhance Duke's Pediatric ICU patient care by simulating the most critical, high-acuity emergencies. Atlas's capabilities, including real-time feedback on CPR, ventilation, and IV placement, mean staff can practice life-saving skills with accurate, hands-on scenarios. The team learns to fine-tune responses and optimize care during rare yet intense situations, improving their response during these critical times. A new manikin will help prepare the Pediatric ICU team to the fullest so that patients receive coordinated, critical care when they need it most.
