Please Join Me In Supporting ATP1A3-Related Genetic Disorder Research!
I'm fundraising in support of the Duke University Alternating Hemiplegia of Childhood (AHC) gift fund. This fund was specifically chosen by me in order to raise money and awareness for Dr. Mohamad A. Mikati’s ATP1A3 related disorder research, which afflicts both of my sons.
Mohamad A. Mikati M.D., is the Wilburt C. Davison Professor of Pediatrics, Professor of Neurobiology, and Chief of the Division of Pediatric Neurology at Duke University. More information about Dr. Mikati can be found here:

The research we are supporting is specifically Gene therapy for ATP1A3-Related Neurologic Disorders and more information about the research can be found here:
https://otc.duke.edu/technologies/gene-therapy-for-atp1a3-related-neurologic-disorders/
There are at least 3 different types of ATP1A3 related disorders which include rapid-onset dystonia-parkinsonism (RDP); alternating hemiplegia of childhood (ACH); and cerebellar ataxia, areflexia, pes cavus, optic atrophy, and sensorineural hearing loss (CAPOS). Specific information related to these 3 types can be found here:

We are very fortunate that the manifestation of this genetic mutation has not resulted in one of the more extreme cases of these heartbreaking disorders that afflict thousands of children. Please contribute to this fund, as it will help me to raise awareness to these devastating illnesses as well as provide research support for gene therapies to treat these rare, but potentially curable neurodegenerative disorders. Please contact me directly with any questions or concerns ~Ken
