#TrainForTia: Supporting pancreatic cancer research at the Duke Cancer Center
This fall, I will be running my first ever marathon, the Richmond Marathon, on November 11. While I am so excited (and nervous!) to be running a marathon, my primary motivation is to honor my mother: Tia DeMaria.
Over two short weeks in June, my mom was hospitalized, diagnosed with Stage IV pancreatic cancer, and passed away from the disease. While my family and I are absolutely devastated, we are so thankful for the wonderful team at Duke for everything they did to care for my mom and support us, both during and after she passed.
For the next three months, I'll be training hard to prepare for my marathon, and I would love your support as I do so. Whether you are able to donate to the Duke Cancer Center, cheer me on (in spirit) at the race, or just send well wishes and thoughts to my family, I really appreciate it. Thank you all for continuing to think of Tia, my family, and me!
