Join me in supporting Duke Cancer Institute
I'm fundraising in support of...Sarcoma research. I was diagnosed with stage IV Leiomyosarcoma in February of 2022, after experiencing pain on the left side of my chest and leg swelling. This was something that I thought happened to others, not me.
Being a police officer, I'm used to being on the helping end, and when confronted with this many others stepped up to assist me and my family. Through this experience, I've met wonderful caregivers and patients. I made connections with so many people that have helped me through my journey. I am grateful for the friendship I made with NC State Trooper Zachary Martin. Zach and I bonded over our careers and diagnosis. Although he fought a hard battle, he is at peace now, and I hope that this fundraising campaign is a way for me to give back in his honor and memory. It is my hope that these donations go to something much larger and help others.
One of these efforts to raise money was through a challenge coin fundraiser through my police department. As a result I was able to raise over $1,600 towards my goal and it is still ongoing.
I'm choosing to support the Duke Cancer Institute because of the exceptional care my family and I have received. No matter how much someone contributes, its the act that matters and is appreciated.
