Friends-
I send an email each year in hope of spreading awareness of this "Silent Killer". So many women in our lives have been affected by this disease. Ovarian Cancer has no test and symptoms that often go undiagnosed. This walk is meant to educate women about the symptoms of Ovarian Cancer and celebrate the survivors who show up and bravely share their story. I only wish my mother- Jan Sprink- was among them.
In 2003 I helped my friend Melanie Bacheler organize the first ever Ovarian Cancer Awareness Walk to honor her mother Gail Parkins. Little did I know that in 2008 my own mother, Jan Sprink, would be diagnosed with ovarian cancer as well. With the help of the amazing team at Duke she fought a good fight. Unfortunately in December 2017, just 10 days after her 77th birthday she passed away.
We miss her everyday. Each year my father would write a moving letter about her cancer journey that I often shared with you. Sadly, we lost my father very unexpectedly in January of 2020 2 days before his 80th birthday. This is the 22nd anniversary of this amazing event that has raised money and provided treatment to so many women.
Please consider joining our team - Jan's Fans- in the run/walk on September 21st or simply make a donation to our team.
Many thanks for all your love and support.
