Hello friends,

On Saturday, September 21, 2024, I will be participating in the Gail Parkins Memorial Ovarian Cancer Walk & 5K Run in Raleigh, N.C., in memory of my dear friend Jean. I will be running and walking alongside dozens of Jean's family and friends. Please consider joining us and/or making a gift to Team Jean. (And if you can't join in person, please join as a ghostwalker and be there with us in spirit!)

Jean turned 39 the month before she died. She also managed - despite a grueling treatment regiment and numerous ER visits - to finish out her year teaching the Lower Elementary students of the Montessori School of Raleigh. Jean's students and her work as a teacher were an ongoing source of fulfillment and purpose in her life. Her commitment to being at school as much as she possibly could despite her physical condition was nothing short of astounding. Each day in Jean's 15-month battle with ovarian cancer consisted of innumerable acts of perseverance and courage.

There has never been a more loyal daughter, sister, and friend; a more thoughtful and committed teacher; a more open-minded enthusiast for fun; nor a more perfect blend of fierce wit and tender heart.

All of the dollars raised will go toward Duke University Medical Center to support Ovarian Cancer Research, including the development of new and better treatments and an accurate screening test for early diagnosis. Any amount, great or small, would be much appreciated.
