Over the Edge 2024 for Duke Children's: Ms. Emily Mautz

Hi Friends and Family,

Every year, Duke Children's hosts a fundraising event called Over the Edge. Participants who hit their fundraising goal of $1,000 are able to rappel off the 21c Museum hotel in Durham, NC. The event this year will be hosted on Saturday, April 20th.

Duke Children's Hospital touches the lives of many families, including the Mautz family. My brother in law, Will, received care at Duke Children's for most of his youth and young adult life. Will loved all things outdoors; kayaking, mountain biking and basketball. Will passed away in December 2015, leaving behind friends, family, and a lasting impact on various lives. What better way to honor his memory than rappelling off the 17th floor of a building?

Will's ability to be that friend, loving family member, and impactful individual was in part due to the outstanding and compassionate care he received from Duke Children's. In 2016, the Mautz family established the William H. Mautz Pediatric Cardiology Support Endowment. This endowment honors Will as well as supporting children and their families who continue their fight today. Funds from this endowment will continue to be directed towards providing impactful and personal support to the families of Duke Children's Pediatric Cardiology who are being cared for by Duke's amazing team.

All donations made through this fundraising page will go to the William H Mautz Pediatric Cardiology Support Endowment. Every donation, small or large, makes a difference to the families Duke Children's cares for everyday.

The William H. Mautz Pediatric Cardiology Support Endowment was established in memory of William Hardin Mautz, a pediatric cardiology patient at Duke Children’s. Will valued the excellent care he received at Duke Children’s and greatly appreciated Ronald Kanter, MD and Stephanie Wechsler, MD who cared not only for his heart, but his success and well-being as an individual. This endowment honors the courage and humor with which Will faced his challenges. We invite you to join the Mautz family in supporting Duke pediatric cardiology patients and their families.
