Angels Among Us 5K and Walk of HOPE is held on Duke Medical Center Campus at the corner of Erwin Road and Flowers Drive.

Please note: While we love our furry friends, no dogs or other animals are allowed for both guest and pet safety. Registered service animals are welcome.

  8:30 am – Festivities begin—event planning is underway—a detailed schedule is coming soon
11:30 am – Walk of HOPE through the Duke campus and the Sarah P. Duke Gardens

Unable to participate but would like to help? Check out all of the unique gifts available in our Silent Auction (details coming soon). After the Walk of HOPE silent auction winners can pick up their items in the silent auction tent. The food vendors will remain open for food and drinks.

New This Year! The Kids’ Dash

Join us for our first annual Kids’ Dash. This event is for children ages 10 and under. Each child getting a race bib and receive an award. Watch your little ones run through the truss while you cheer them on. This Child Run event is $10 and you can register by clicking on the yellow "Register" box in the right hand corner of this page.

About the 5K Run

The Angels Among Us 5K run is a competitive certified course professionally timed by Precision Race. Enjoy rolling hills as you run through the beautiful Duke campus, by the Duke Chapel, and the Nasher Museum of Art. The race begins and ends at the main event stage located on Flowers Drive and is guided by the Duke and Durham police.

If you choose to walk the 5K route, please note the police can only block streets until the last 5K runner finishes, which is approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes. At that time please walk on the sidewalks and obey traffic laws for pedestrians.

Awards will be given to the first, second, and third place males and females for each age range below:

    6-12       30-39       70-79
  13-15      40-49    80+

About the Walk of HOPE

The Walk of HOPE begins at the main stage and is led by our pediatric survivors followed by our adult survivors. There are two route options for you to choose from this year. The short route goes by the Duke Cancer Center (Medicine Circle), then back towards the event on Flowers Drive. The second route goes by Duke Cancer Center, continues through the Sarah P. Duke Gardens, and then returns to the event on Flowers Drive.

While both routes are wheelchair accessible we recommend that you choose the short route around the Duke Cancer Center since the Sarah P. Duke Gardens have gravel pathways.

All traffic should access Yearby Avenue through Anderson Street, please avoid Flowers Drive.

The GPS address is 2011 Yearby Avenue, Durham, NC 27705. The GPS address is the general parking entrance, which is directly beside the event.

HANDICAP PARKING: People or groups with disabilities have access to the parking lot on the corner of Yearby Avenue and Flowers Drive. Show your pass to staff on Yearby Avenue and proceed to lower lot on right. Ramps are on all medians so you can easily access all tents and activities.

Online: Registration closes at midnight on Thursday, April 20. You can register in person on the day of the event, Saturday, April 22.

Mail: Send registration form along with your check made payable to Duke University-Angels. Be sure to include your team name on the memo line. Mail-in registrations must be postmarked no later than Saturday, April 8.

Registration includes T-shirt, chip, official time for "competitive" runners, and award for eligible winners.

Note: Registration fees are non-refundable.


Team Photos

First step is to email Kim Toxey at to schedule your team photo.  Team photos are taken in 10-minute increments from 9:00-10:40.  

Please include the following in your email

  • Team name
  • Team Captain name
  • Approximate number of team members
  • 1st choice of time slot  (ie. 9:00, 9:10, 9:20…all the way until 10:40)

Kim will respond within 48 hours to confirm your time slot and provide additional details about your team photo.  Be sure to share this time with your team members and decide on your meeting spot!
