In Memory of Dr. Richard Csarny, MA, MSW, PhD-10th Anniversary
July 23, 2010, marks the ten year anniversary of the death of my beloved husband, Rich Csarny. He was a gentle, wise, kind, loving, funny and deeply spiritual man. His lifelong search for wisdom and knowledge led him to careers as a teacher, mentor, counselor and researcher.
In January, 2005, Rich was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. That diagnosis began a five and a half year relationship with the Duke Cancer Center, now DCI. He was treated with chemotherapy, radiation therapy, brachytherapy, targeted therapy and two clinical trials.
During this time we were introduced to the GI/Pancreatic Cancer group of the Duke Cancer Patient Support Program. Every Tuesday afternoon for five and a half years we participated in a group that we would come to call “family”. The support group and the DCPSP team stood with us through good days and not so good days, through happy times and sad.
Rich and I also participated as members of the Advisory Board for the Duke Cancer Patient Support Program. This program has grown by leaps and bounds since we were participants. All services are offered at no cost to patients and caregivers. In gratitude for all that the program offered us, and in honor of Rich please consider a donation to the Richard and Janet Csarny Fund, an Endowment for the Duke Cancer Patient Support Program. My goal is $10,000. It is a cause that was dear to Rich’s heart and is to mine. Thank you for any donation you may be able to offer.
With gratitude,
Janet McGough-Csarny
