Keto Medicine

Keto Medicine is the application of nutritional ketosis to improve health, and to prevent and treat metabolic problems. The Duke Keto Medicine Clinic was founded in 2006 by Dr. Eric C. Westman and Dr. William S. Yancy Jr., after pioneering the systematic evaluation of low carbohydrate, ketogenic diets for the treatment of obesity and other metabolic problems. Dr. Westman visited the offices of physicians who had used this nutritional approach in their clinics, and started the studies to evaluate the diet’s safety and efficacy in 1998. Now, studies have been done all around the world documenting the safety and efficacy of low carbohydrate and ketogenic nutritional approaches.
