About the Keto Medicine Clinic

Since the founding of the Duke Keto Medicine Clinic, thousands of patients with a myriad of chronic health problems have been treated at the clinic. The Duke Keto Medicine Clinic staff consists of Dr. Eric C. Westman, Dr. William S. Yancy Jr., and clinical support staff. The application of the Keto Diet, also known as a low carbohydrate ketogenic diet, to chronic medical problems is as strong as multiple prescription drugs—as most individuals will no longer require medications at the same level as before they started the program.

The Duke Keto Medicine Clinic is housed in the Division of General Medicine and Department of Medicine. The clinic is administered within the Duke Private Diagnostic Clinic private practice and within the insurance, Medicare and Medicaid payment systems. The clinic provides education to Duke and visiting medical students, Duke residents in internal medicine, and visiting health care practitioners.

Support will be used for:

  • Creating, maintaining, analyzing and publishing the clinical cohort of patients treated at the Duke Keto Medicine Clinic
  • Creation of an annual conference on Keto Medicine
  • Development of educational materials to teach other health care providers
  • Evaluation of a program to deliver keto-friendly foods to the underserved

Establishing and maintaining a university-based clinical program also includes the endowment of named lectureships and named professorships. Please inquire directly if interested in this level of support.
